The Blood Center informs the public that there is a very high need for blood of all groups, due to the extremely low stocks, due to the increased number of blood products that had to be given for transfusion from January 1, 2019 until today.
Specifically, from January 1, 2019 until today, more than 12,000 blood products have been given for transfusion, a number much higher than the usual average. At the same time, influenza and gastroenteritis epidemics have led to the exclusion of large numbers of blood donors from blood donations.
Due to the increased need for blood and for better service of blood donors, from Monday, February 25, until Wednesday, February 27, 2019, Blood donation Stations all over Cyprus will operate with extended hours.
Specifically the Blood Bank of Famagusta General Hospital will operate from The 7.30 a.m. until 2.30 p.m., from today until Wednesday.
