The Ministry of Health Pharmaceutical Services, which is taking part in the 6th annual #MedSafetyWeek social media campaign to raise awareness of the importance of reporting suspected side effects after vaccination, urges the public to respond.

According to a statement, the #MedSafetyWeek campaign, which runs from November 1 to 7, 2021, focuses on vaccines.

Competent pharmacovigilance authorities in 64 participating countries encourage health professionals, staff of national vaccination programs, as well as patients, carers and their families to report problems they have encountered with the use of vaccines, including vaccines against disease COVID-19.

It is noted that vaccines are the best way to protect against infectious diseases and have already saved millions of lives and as with all drugs, side effects can occur with vaccines.

The reporting of possible side effects, through the national reporting system of the Yellow Card, is added, helps to identify new side effects and to supplement the knowledge about their actions.

"Every report counts, so everyone is encouraged to report any possible side effects in a timely manner, not expecting anyone else to do it for them. "Vaccine health professionals are particularly encouraged as they discuss side effects with patients and as they are on the lookout for new or rare suspected side effects of vaccines."

The Pharmaceutical Services clarifies that this campaign is taking place at a critical time when millions of people are being vaccinated against COVID-19, however, applies to all vaccines.

It is noted that the reporting of possible side effects through the Yellow Card system is essential and contributes to the monitoring, by the Pharmaceutical Services of the Ministry of Health, of the safe use of all vaccines, with the ultimate goal of protecting Public Health through effective regulatory mechanisms.

It emphasizes that "through cooperation and the exchange of information, we can make vaccines better for everyone".

Please note that adverse reactions can be reported in accordance with the National Pharmaceutical Services Reporting System, Pharmacovigilance Sector, by submitting the Yellow Card in the following ways: Online submission through the Pharmaceutical Services website www.moh.gov.cy directly to www.kitrinikarta.gov.cy and send in printed form by fax (22-608669) or by mail to the Department of Pharmacovigilance, Pharmaceutical Services (Polypimou 15, 2033 Strovolos).

Patients are encouraged to contact a healthcare professional if they have any health concerns.
