Farmers say it is beneficial for rainfall in the village of Famagusta (VIDEO)

The rains of the last months are also beneficial for the farmers of the province of Famagusta, who depend mainly on the fullness of the dam of Achna, which nevertheless is at low levels.

Despite the heavy rains of the last few days, the occupancy of the Achna Dam, which is connected via the South Pipeline to the Kourris Dam, remains low. Specifically, according to the data of the Department of Water Development, the fullness today amounts to 6,7% while during the same period last year it amounted to 16.7%.

According to the Common Leader of Achna, Nikos Vasilas, "Because this year is blessed, the Water Department should study the situation and send water into the dam, so that the fauna and fish that are inside are preserved."

At the same time, this year's rains do not leave unsatisfied the farmers of Achna and the province of Famagusta.

According to the Mayor of Achna, Nikos Vassilas, "The rains this year, in recent months have been very beneficial for farmers, the land was thirsty, we hope that the rains will continue in the coming months so that the dams get the quantities that Cyprus needs."

It is worth noting that the Achnas Dam has been part of the Natura 2000 network as a Special Protection Zone since 2008, due to the rich bird fauna it hosts.
