Regarding ongoing publications and public statements of the lawyer Mr. Ah. Demitriadis as well as the Mayor of Famagusta Mr. Al. Galanou, regarding individual claims for property in occupied Nicosia and the enclosed area of Varosia respectively, the Legal Service clarifies in an announcement the following:

“1. Repeatedly with their statements, Messrs. Demitriadis and Galanos claim that the State and / or the Legal Service have left the deadline for the Republic to declare whether it will intervene in the procedure, which, according to them, in the Panayi and Shiartou lawsuit was 10.6.2019, and in the appeal of KV Mediterranean Tours Ltd it is Tuesday 19.6.2019.

2. This is untrue, if by letters of the day. On 18.3.19 and 26.3.19 the ECtHR notified the Republic that in the first case the applicants and Turkey (and not the Republic), had until 10.6.2019 to discuss the possibility of an amicable settlement and in the second case the applicants and the Turkey has until 18.06.2019 for an amicable settlement and as the Court adds, if the two parties did not settle the case within the above deadlines, then (ie after the deadlines set), the cases would move to the next, contentious stage. then the Court would ask or will ask the Republic to inform it whether its Government wishes to exercise its right to intervene (“… if the case moves to the contentions phase, you will be invited to inform me whether or not your Government wish to exercise their right to intervene… ”).

3. Nevertheless, in the first case we had not received any notice that we were called upon to exercise our right to intervene and therefore no time limit had been exceeded or received by the Republic. In the second case, too, we have not received any notice, since in any case the deadline given to the parties for an amicable settlement until 18.06.2019, has not yet passed.

4. It is therefore completely unfounded to claim that in one case any time limit has expired and the Republic has not replied whether it wishes to intervene as well as the claim that in the other case the time limit will expire on 18.6.19.

5. We have asked the ECtHR in Strasbourg today to confirm the above and by letters received this afternoon from the Secretariat, it is confirmed that the facts are as above, that by their own fault the indication was given that the Republic did not respond and that no date has passed for the Republic, which will be called upon to intervene if it wishes, in due course.

6. It is therefore unfortunate that some people have been unjustifiably and irresponsibly raped to accuse, to ridicule for repeating omissions such as halloumi, etc. without bothering to confirm any of their information in advance. ”
