Turkey needs to get a very clear European message, Democratic Alarm President Averof Neophytou said on Thursday, launching contacts with elected officials and organized groups focusing on Turkey's illegal actions and threats to settle Famagusta.
"We have opened a circle of contacts focusing on the illegal actions of Turkey and the threats for illegal settlement of Famagusta. Together with the MPs of the District and the District Secretary and the Executive Office, we met with elected officials and organized groups of Famagusta. It is a joint effort to prevent new executions in Famagusta and it concerns all Cypriots "said Mr. Neophytou.
He noted that these contacts will continue and will include a special session with reputable lawyers where the legal aspects concerning Varosia will be discussed. He said that they do not rule out the referral of experts from abroad.
"Turkey is threatening but Cyprus is not alone and should not be alone. "As a Democratic Alarm, we are a member of the largest group in the European Parliament, the European People's Party," he continued.
Mr. Neophytou said that after the completion of the contacts, they will inform the head of the Parliamentary Group of the European People's Party, “my friend from Cyprus and my personal friend, Mr. Manfred Weber, in order to support our positions in issue of Varos. "Turkey must get a very clear European message."
