The 1st Prize in the competition of Technology and Innovation of Technical Education was secured by the students of the Regional Technical and Agricultural School of Famagusta / Avgorou with the construction of Portable Car Speed Adjustment.

The aim of the above construction was to solve the problem of regulating the speed of wheeled vehicles in the city using a "smart curve". In recent years, we have seen more and more curves being placed on the roads to encourage drivers to slow down. In case the driver does not comply with the proposed limits, the vehicles, passing over the curvature, bounce and jump violently with incalculable damage to the vehicles but mainly to the drivers and passengers, causing injuries to their spine.

The problem is exacerbated, as both for the construction of many curves the specifications are not followed and because in many of them defects are observed. As a result many drivers no longer comply, as either passing slowly or quickly the result will be about the same.

The idea was to build a hump which with special counterweights could sink into the road and return. More specifically, with a sensor we measure the speed of the passing vehicle and, when this is the allowed, the hump under the weight of the vehicle recedes and "disappears", reaching the level of the road. In this way, passengers who have the feeling that the vehicle is passing on a flat road benefit. However, in the event that the speed of the vehicle is not allowed, the sensor commands a wedge which "locks" the hump and does not allow it to retreat. Therefore, the vehicles pass, passing over the curve with the known consequences.

By adopting the above solution, we contribute both to the solution of traffic problems and to the cultivation of traffic education for drivers, especially young people, as by their compliance they will have an additional incentive, the reward.

The students Paraschos Efthymios, Orthodoxos Christodoulos, Oikonomou Marios, Peratikos Antonis, Matsiou Giorgos and Karyos Giorgos worked for this construction under the guidance of their teachers, Arseni Athanasios, Antoniou Thomas, Fysentzidis Erikou and Stylia.
