More than 600 athletes from 30 European countries will take part in the "6th International Ayia Napa Triathlon" which will take place on Sunday, March 17 at Nissi Beach Resort.

In a press conference given on Friday afternoon, at the Municipal Museum "Thalassa", the Mayor Giannis Karousos expressed his satisfaction for the fact that the "Ayia Napa Triathlon" while it started as a pilot in 2014 managed to attract athletes from many countries, many of which are champions in their own countries and at a pan-European level and has been established as an international sport ”.
He added that "the organization of the Triathlon is a shocking proof that sports tourism is one of the solutions for extending the tourist season. Ayia Napa has managed to prove that we can help with our own services and our own way in organizing large sports organizations, while our goal is to establish and upgrade them ".
"The Municipality of Ayia Napa", he continued, approached all the Sports Federations with the aim of organizing, with the support of the Municipality, various games and festivals. "Our primary goal is to promote in a smart and creative way, through sports activities, the tourism product of the region" he said and noted that "this is proof that if we invest and build the appropriate infrastructure we will be much easier to have full-time tourism, based in special forms of tourism ”.
Giannis Karousos thanked the Nireas Triathlon and the athletes for their participation in the race, assured that the Municipality will continue to support the "Ayia Napa Triathlon" and invited everyone to visit Ayia Napa tomorrow Sunday, March 17 to attend the this great sporting event ".
Panagiotis Dais, President of the Nireas Association, which is the organizer of the Triathlon, expressed pride in the organization of the "Ayia Napa Triathlon" and thanked the Municipality of Ayia Napa and the Ministry of Tourism for their continued support in its team effort. period, the athletes who honored the event with their presence and wished to be the ambassadors of Cyprus in the International Triathlon ".
Many of the athletes expressed their satisfaction for their presence in Ayia Napa to take part in the big sporting event and assured that they will give their best in order to have a decent participation in the race.
It is noted that the race includes three different distances for all levels, Hellenic Bank Middle Distance Triathlon, Triathlon and Sprint Triathlon.
The Hellenic Bank Middle Distance Triathlon consists of 1.9 km of swimming, 90 km of cycling and 21 km of running. The Triathlon, known as the Olympic Games, consists of 1.5 km of swimming, 40 km of cycling and 10 km of running while the Sprint Triathlon is 750 meters of swimming, 20 km. cycling and 5km running.
The start and finish will be at Nissi Beach Resort, with the athletes starting the race by swimming on Nissi Bay Beach, continuing by cycling to Cape Greco and then running to Agia Thekla and back to Nissi Beach Resort for the finish.
The route is designed so that athletes can pass through some of the most beautiful places in Ayia Napa.
