The Famagusta District Court today imposed prison sentences on an employer and an employee for offenses related to illegal employment, in violation of the Law on Foreigners and Immigration.
According to the Police, on 26/1/2020, as part of a campaign for undeclared and illegal employment, a foreigner illegally on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus was found by members of the Service for Foreigners and Immigration to perform construction work in a renovated Hotel in the hotel under renovation. . Judge Michalis Papathanassiou, concerned about the alarming escalation of such crimes, while emphasizing all the serious consequences that this entails, in the labor market and in the economic and social life of the place, decided that the appropriate punishment is that of imprisonment and sentencing. 3 months direct imprisonment of the employer and 2 months of immediate imprisonment of the employer.
