"With a year delay due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 37th Ayia Napa International Festival - dedicated to Mikis Theodorakis - reopens its gates

The Municipal Council in a recent session decided to dedicate to the great Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis who recently passed away the four-day events of the International Festival of Ayia Napa, which will take place on September 23, 24, 25 and 26, in the Central Square Go.

Despite the financial difficulties caused by the pandemic in the last two years, which resulted in the budget of the International Festival being cut in half, the Municipality of Ayia Napa, with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, which is the Grand Sponsor, managed to prepare a lot careful and quality program for all tastes.

On Thursday (23/09) there will be a Volunteering event entitled "Sports for All" which is part of the festival and takes place in the context of the European Sports Week #BEACTIVE. In the first section of the event there will be sports activities by members of the teams of the AGO Famagusta program and in the second section the Music and Dance Club of the Municipality of Ayia Napa will present a rich artistic program.

The first official day of the Festival (Friday 24/09) is marked by the concert entitled "Ship adorned" by the famous artists Georgia Ntagaki, Despina Olimpiou and Kouli Theodorou, who will take a tour of the musical wealth of Greece where they will be heard songs of great Greek composers with special reference to Crete. The concert will start at 8.00 pm. At 7.45pm there will be a dancing sergiani with Greek traditional dances by the Dance Bands "Kimon" Xylotympos and the Municipality of Ayia Napa. The presence of the Cyprus Police Force Philharmonic is also important, which from 7.00pm-7.30pm will play music and songs around the roundabout of the Medieval Monastery.

The concert "Beautiful City of Ayia Napa", which is a tribute to the great Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis as well as the dance performance "The Muses from the Dance School of Elena Ttofa" includes the second night (Saturday 25/09). In the concert which starts at 9.00 pm the popular Greek singer Petros Gaitanos together with the Cypriot singers Maria Vardaki and Marianna Chatzichristou will present a program with great songs by the renowned composer, which will be accompanied by an 8-member conductor B Argyridis.

The program of the third and last day of the Festival includes the big concert of the favorite singer Pantelis Thalassinos with the general title "Tou erotas pedemoi", an anthology with songs of love from tradition to the great Greek composers. Together with the great artist, Lisa Theofanous participates and accompanies a 7-member band under the direction of Admitos Pitsillidis.

Apart from the artistic part of the Festival, important and interesting will be the exhibitions, which originate from the whole range of fine arts as well as an exhibition of agricultural products and flowers of the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment and the exhibition of the Department of Forests on " Flora, Fauna and Environment of Cyprus ". It will also function as an exhibition space, the Folklore Museum - Rural House, in the courtyard of which will be held demonstrations of various household agricultural and agricultural activities and will present demonstrations of traditional arts such as wood carving, silversmithing, glaze, silk, handicrafts, and other handicrafts.
