G. Karousos: "We lost this year due to noise pollution"

The Parliament is preparing to put an end to the headache of local authorities, tourists and citizens with the changes it promotes so that the legislation on noise pollution can be implemented.

The situation of this year is characterized as tragic by the Mayor of Ayia Napa, who calls on the Parliament and the competent services to immediately promote the amendments.

According to the Mayor of Ayia Napa, the issue of noise pollution not only bothers Ayia Napa but also bothers almost all the Municipalities of Cyprus, from Paphos to Protaras and even in the center of Nicosia. An issue that the local authorities are unable to control since they have neither the weapons nor the law to be able to control it ".

For its part, the Parliamentary Committee on Interior declares its readiness to promote the amendment of the legislation.

According to the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Interior, Eleni Mavrou, last Friday a wide-ranging meeting was held at the Ministry of Interior on the issue of noise pollution and expressed confidence that all involved services and the Ministry are willing to provide effective solutions to the problem.

It is pointed out that the existing legislation entered into force on January 1, 2017 but could not be implemented in practice, while last June the Ministry of Interior decided to suspend it.
