On the occasion of the post of the Secretary of POED, Haris Charalambous for the unbearable heat that students and teachers face in schools, the Mayor of Ayia Napa made an announcement on his social media account that surprised many.

Specifically, Giannis Karousos announced that the Municipality of Ayia Napa will undertake the installation of air conditioning systems in the city's schools.

In fact, the post of Mayor Karousos was full of meaning, since as he said "Many times the Municipalities replace the state and because we are also a 'kingdom', we will fully bear the cost of installing air conditioners in our schools, something that should be done for years in all schools by the Ministry itself."

He went on to express hope "The ministry should not force us to pay the EAC bill".

The Charalambous post

POED Secretary Haris Charalambous reiterated the issue of conducting courses in inappropriate climatic conditions, ringing the alarm bell.

Mr. Charalambous wrote on his personal Facebook account that the situation is unbearable, both for the students and the teachers and that "it is not a lesson, but an effort for survival".

In fact, he wonders if we should "expect to lose a student or teacher from heatstroke in a classroom in order to proceed with the installation of air conditioners?".

"Inevitably, the issue of installing air conditioners in classrooms has become topical again for many days now by children and teachers. It is no longer a matter of luxury, but of immediate urgency, if we want a quality school with the right learning conditions ", he adds.

At the same time, he emphasizes that May, with its climatic conditions, 35-42 degrees and dust, once again highlighted the unbearable situation that prevails in public schools in the months of May, June, September and October.

"Was there a case for a private school, without air conditioning? It would just run out of students and close. It is everyone's responsibility to find a solution to the problem. "And the Government and all the parties", he concludes.

At the same time, a teacher posted on Facebook a photo showing a thermometer in the school yard, with the temperature exceeding 40 degrees.

"Today we had to take classes inside and outside the classroom and breaks, in these temperatures 11.45. Time XNUMX in the yard of my school, which is relatively high in the city. When will the Ministry take action to take these safety and health issues seriously ?? When will we start having heatstroke in schools? Unacceptable working conditions for young and old… ", reported characteristically.
