The District Court of Famagusta issued on Monday (04/9) a detention order for eight days against five foreigners, two aged 20 and three aged 19, to facilitate the Police's investigations regarding an investigated case of the alleged rape of a tourist in Ayia Napa.

The British tourist, aged 20, reported to the Police that she was raped by a number of people in a hotel in Ayia Napa. British media reports that the 20-year-old told police that the Israelis forcibly grabbed her from the hotel pool and took her to her room.

According to the report, the British woman after the incident seemed to be devastated.

For their part, two of the Israelis claim that they have never met the British woman and rejected the charge of gang rape. The suspects are expected to testify before investigators in the coming days.

The Guardian claims that investigations are focusing on footage from the hotel's CCTV. "The CCTV footage will show if she was taken against her will and by force into the room."

It is noted that a similar incident occurred about four years ago in Ayia Napa when 12 Israelis were arrested on suspicion of raping a British woman. The youths were released when it was found to be a false statement.
