The Municipality of Ayia Napa is determined to take measures for immediate treatment of nuisance and noise pollution.
A written announcement of the Municipality of Ayia Napa states that "the Municipality is determined to take measures to immediately address and resolve problems, including nuisance and noise pollution, which occur mainly in the summer months from the reckless use of certain types of vehicles, such as four-wheelers and high-capacity motorcycles ".
As stated by the Mayor Giannis Karousos, "recently a research has been prepared according to which the problems of nuisance and noise pollution negatively affect the visitors, the residents but also the businesses of Ayia Napa. Initially, the Municipality intends to request the issuance of decrees banning the circulation of four-wheeled vehicles and large-capacity motorcycles, within its municipal boundaries ".
He added that "the ban will be universal or per area, per type of vehicle or per street / avenue and with a specific schedule such as from 18.00 in the afternoon until six in the morning."
According to the announcement, "Mr. Karousos also stated that the Municipality, before making its final decision, will proceed with consultation with all bodies, ie residents and entrepreneurs of rental vehicles, from whom it will ask to submit in writing the their views. All agencies should send their views via email grammatia@agianapa.org.cy or submit them to the offices of the Municipality of Ayia Napa by 12 noon on March 20. "
The Mayor also said that "those who send their views should state whether they are for or against the specific measure and substantiate their opinion. In case the bodies are in favor of the measure, they should propose the type of vehicles, the areas and the hours of the ban ".
