The government supports progress in strawberry cultivation and the agricultural sector in general in Cyprus, said Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Costas Kadis.

Speaking at the 11th Pancyprian Strawberry Festival held last night in Deryneia, the Minister said that "it is an impressive event that brings thousands of people to Deryneia, it is impressive the attendance from Cyprus and abroad, a real festival with many events for all the interests and focusing on the strawberry ".

At the same time, he congratulated "the Municipality and the Municipal Council of Deryneia, the dozens of volunteers, our farmers who have taken initiatives and have progressed throughout this period in the production of strawberries in the region and in Cyprus in general."

The Minister of Agriculture noted that "the government will support such initiatives but will also support the progress of strawberry cultivation and the agricultural sector in general in our country."

For his part, the Mayor of Deryneia, Andros Karagiannis, stated that "it is unbelievable how many people, foreigners and locals, came to Deryneia to enjoy the strawberry and its derivatives. This means that Deryneia has taken the lead in the production of strawberries for good and it is no coincidence that the Municipality produces more than 60% of the entire production in Cyprus ".

He added that "we are proud of this fact which is mainly due to the diligence of strawberry growers who with the help of new strawberry growers will offer even more to the public of Cyprus."

The 11th Pancyprian Intercultural Strawberry was held in a crowded "Renaissance" Stadium and was organized by the Municipality of Deryneia, the Organizing Committee of the Festival and the Strawberry Producers of Deryneia.

At the Festival there were several kiosks with strawberry products such as liqueur, juice and ice cream that people enjoyed for free, kiosks for children while the artistic program was enriched with their success by the artists Petros Imbrios and Triantaphyllos.

It is noted that one of the many kiosks was staffed by Third Country Nationals, while several YTX generously gave their help for the operation of other kiosks.
