The Initiative "Famagusta is our city" and the Turkish Cypriot initiative "Famagusta Initiative" organized today at 10 in the morning at the roadblock of Deryneia in which they demanded the opening of the Famagusta Avenue that will connect the city of Derygoneia with Derygonea.
A group of citizens originating from Famagusta, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots protested peacefully on both sides of the roadblock, demanding the opening of the Deryneia roadblock.
As stated by the Mayor of Deryneia, Andros Karagiannis, "The Municipality of Deryneia supports such initiatives carried out by Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot citizens regarding the opening of the Deryneia roadblock but also for the solution of the Cyprus problem. The citizens have the ability but also the power to demonstrate peacefully for the good and for the future of Cyprus. But they do not have the power to open roadblocks. That is a matter of political will and decision. "
The Representative of the Initiative "Famagusta is our city" and Municipal Councilor of Famagusta Nikos Karoulas stated in turn that the opening of the roadblock is a political decision. He noted that the heart of the people of Famagusta beats in the occupied city, while he expressed the hope of reunification and return.
