In the final straight the roadblock in Deryneia (VIDEO)

The works at the roadblock of Deryneia are progressing at a fast pace, as even the road inside the dead zone has been asphalted.

According to the newspaper "POLITIS", the signs are ready, as well as the markings on the road. On the side of Famagusta Avenue in the free areas, preparations are in the final phase to reopen the road to the occupied city.

The pending issues now mainly concern the T / C side, as the construction of the checkpoint on the occupied side, the configuration of the parking lot, the connection to the electricity and water supply networks and the purchase of electronic equipment remain.

However, the tenders for the above projects were announced only in the last weeks by the T / C "Central Tender Board", with the final date for submission of bids being set for mid-July.

Also pending on the part of the Turkish Cypriot side is the need to hire additional "police officers" to staff the roadblock, which was delayed due to lack of the necessary funds. It is still open when the occupying army will move its (now empty) outpost located at the roadblock, as agreed.

Therefore, in fact, the work does not end until July 1, which President Anastasiadis had mentioned to the Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci as a goal of the Greek Cypriot side to complete its own preparations. However, these delays bring the opening of the Deryneia roadblock closer to the assessment of the e / k side for its completion of the works on the Lefka / Aplikio roadblock. It is recalled that the initial agreement was for the simultaneous opening of the roadblocks, something that the Turkish Cypriot side insisted on for a long time. However, in recent months, Mr. Akinci has publicly stated that there is no question whether the opening of the two passages will take place a few weeks apart.
