Yesterday, the Police proceeded to arrest three persons, to facilitate investigations, regarding an investigated case of assisting the illegal entry of third country nationals into the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.

The arrest of the three persons, aged 47, 38 and 31, was made after the arrival on the coast of Cyprus, of a boat in which a total of 11 illegal immigrants were on board.

Specifically, yesterday afternoon, an unknown boat was detected by the radar of the Coastal and Maritime Police, sailing in the sea area southeast of Cabo Greco.

The boat, approximately 3.5 meters long, was stopped by a Coastal and Maritime Police vessel, at a distance of 5.5 nautical miles from the coast of Cyprus, and it was found that 11 illegal immigrants (10 men and an unaccompanied minor) were on board.

The illegal immigrants were boarded at the Akato Police Station and transported safely to the fishing shelter of Paralimni, where their boat was also towed.

From the examinations that followed, testimony was obtained against the three specific persons, as the navigators of the boat, with the result that they were arrested.

The rest of the irregular immigrants were transferred to the Pournara Irregular Immigrants Reception Center.
