The Cyprus Transmission System Operator has announced possible alternating power outages, due to an emergency breakdown in a production unit at the Dekelia Power Station. Power outages, as the Administrator explains, may occur "in order to ensure reliability and avoid instability in the Cyprus Electric System and possible overloading of the Transmission Network".

Specifically, it states that today, Friday 02/02/2024, it may proactively cut consumer load on a rotating basis between the hours of 18:00-21:00, in the areas of Larnaca, Nicosia and Free Famagusta. It is noted that the duration of the cuts, should they be necessary, is not expected to exceed 30 minutes.

In this context, the Administrator appeals to the consumers of the above areas to reduce the electricity demand during the mentioned hours, in order to reduce or even avoid the necessary cuts.

The announcement also states that according to the EAC, the restoration of the damage is expected to last for a period of ten days. By extension, he adds that the data of each day will be evaluated separately, for possible application of the above in the following days. In any case, it is noted that an announcement will be issued by the DSMC. He also mentions that CERA has been duly informed about the issue.

"TSMC apologizes in advance for any inconvenience that may be caused, as the safety and reliability of the Electricity System is paramount for the good of Cyprus", the announcement concludes.
