In the last few days, there has been a continuous flow of admissions who present with severe symptoms and as a result need immediate treatment, said Amalia Hatzigianni, Scientific Director of Larnaca - Famagusta General Hospitals, at KYPE, noting that 93% of patients in the General Hospital as a Reference Hospital for patients with coronavirus, have not been vaccinated against Covid-19.

He added that "30 people are currently being treated at the Reference Hospital, five of whom are in the Intensive Care Unit, as they need closer monitoring. The youngest patient is 33 years old and the oldest is 93 years old, both without having been vaccinated against the coronavirus, while the average age of the patients in the hospital is 69 years ".

He noted that "the Eden Rehabilitation Center in Tersefanou, hosts 27 people who will remain until their complete negativity. "Of the patients treated at the hospital, only two have been vaccinated against the coronavirus, ie a percentage that reaches 93% has not been vaccinated."

Answering a relevant question, Ms. Hatzigianni said that "in the last few days there has been a continuous flow of imports which show strong symptoms, as a result of which they need immediate treatment".

According to her, the average length of hospitalization of patients at the Referral Hospital is five days, while last weekend four people had to be intubated and transported to the Intensive Care Unit in Nicosia.

He explained that "the age of the four patients who had to be intubated ranged from 30 to 65 years. "The message must be given to the world that even young people, especially those with underlying diseases, may need coronary artery bypass grafting and should be vaccinated to protect themselves and those around them first."

Asked what people should do with the arrival of winter and the low temperatures that have been observed recently in Cyprus, Ms. Hatzigianni replied that "the public needs to continue to do rapid tests, to observe the protection measures, ie mask, hand washing and distances and in case a person is found to be positive for coronavirus to declare their contacts ". "Even the common cold and the common flu will now be considered suspicious," he said.

At the same time, he called on the people "as soon as they realize any symptoms to contact their personal doctor, who will guide them and make the necessary diagnosis, excluding the common cold or the common flu. "If the doctor diagnoses that the person has coronavirus symptoms, then he will refer him to the Hospital as soon as possible, so that the treatment he will receive is effective and beneficial".

Regarding the vaccination that takes place in the four Centers located in the General Hospital of Famagusta, Ms. Hatzigianni answered that "they are progressing satisfactorily with the first and second dose of the vaccine but also the repeated third dose".
