The licensed solid waste transporters had a meeting today with the Department of Environment regarding the illegal landfills for transhipment or disposal of solid waste operating in the province of Famagusta.
The Director of the Department of Environment, Costas Hatzipanagiotou, was also present at the meeting.
According to information from Famagusta.News, following suggestions from the Department of the Environment to licensed solid waste carriers, it was decided to impose stricter measures and higher fines in order to comply with the involved parties, and to follow the legal route of transporting waste out of province. , since in free Famagusta there is no transhipment area.
Therefore, the licensed carriers are obliged to adapt to the instructions of the Department of Environment and the price is expected to increase to cover the cost of transport of "skip" or other type of vehicles for transport and transhipment of solid waste.
Indicatively, it is worth noting that the cost of transporting waste "skip" type currently amounts to approximately € 80, while with this decision the cost is expected to almost double.
