Dozens of employees at the Famagusta General Hospital, which has been operating as a Reference Hospital since last March, went on a spontaneous strike today.

The work stoppage was carried out mainly by nurses, as a sign of support to three of their colleagues who are in danger of losing their jobs.

The three nurses, in particular, who worked in private hospitals were among the first to respond to the Ministry of Health's order to recruit nursing staff and due to the extension of the pandemic they were forced to leave their private work, after their employers hired replacements.

They are reportedly promised that they will be hired by OKYPY, while the organization does not clarify whether it will proceed with their recruitment.

The protest event was attended by patients and ordinary citizens, the Executive Director of Larnaca-Famagusta OKYPY George Karotsakis, the President of PASYNO Theodoros Petelis as well as the Specialist Pathologist and Coordinator of doctors in the ward COVID-19 Christos Kypris who from the first moment stood by the side of the three nurses and it is better to listen to their statements.
