New confrontation between the Civil Service Agency and nurses, who are shouting for understaffing in public hospitals in a time of pandemic.

Speaking on ANT1's "Mera Mesimeri" show, the General Secretary of PASYNO, Panagiotis Georgiou, stated that four months after the agreement with the State Health Services Organization, for immediate recruitment of nurses, new employees are still waiting to come.

Mr. Georgiou stressed that there are large shortages in public hospitals and there is no proper staffing since there is a reduction of more than 260 nurses.

Regarding the understaffing, the General Secretary of PASYNO, said that many nurses leave the hospital and go to other services and departments that open without being replaced.

However, in response, the Spokesperson of OKYPY, Charalambos Charilaou, said that the organization has complied with the agreement it has made with the nurses' unions and has proceeded with the recruitment and soon the employees will start their work.

Mr. Charilaou underlined that the recruitment of nurses will take place by the end of October, while some have already signed a contract and are ready to enter the hospitals.

The nurses complain of understaffing in the Reference Hospital with OKYPY stating that it has been staffed with additional nursing staff.

Specifically, the General Secretary of PASYNO, stated that things work around the clock, things are due to those who selflessly work day and night to get through their difficult work without any help so far from OKYPY.

Mr. Charilaou stated that requests have been made for staffing of the Reference Hospital and he was staffed with nurses from Larnaca, while other staff is expected to come in the coming days.

Nevertheless, Mr. Georgiou noted that the nurses at the Reference Hospital are indignant as they work overtime and those that they had to do for four months were not done by OKYPY.

Eventually, complaints were made by three nurses who were admitted to the Referral Hospital during a pandemic and have now lost their jobs and were not included in the new recruitments.

Mr. Charilaou stated that the reason they were not included is that some nurses had more points and experience.
