We are going through a difficult period but the situation is manageable, said on the SIGMA show "Front Page", the Scientific Director of Larnaca - Famagusta Hospitals, Amalia Hatzigianni, while at the same time said that the number of cases reported to the hospital staff.

As he noted, 65 patients with COVID19 are currently being treated at the Reference Hospital, 13 of whom are in the conditions of an Intensive Care Unit.

The youngest patient is 31 years old while the oldest 93.

The percentage of unvaccinated people who are currently being treated is 78%.

Last week, he said, the Referral Hospital increased its beds to 70.

In recent days, he added, there is a greater need for patients to be treated in an Intensive Care Unit, where the number of beds has increased.

"The saddest thing is when patients end up with intubation and need an Intensive Care Unit."

Ms. Hatzigianni stated that the number of hospitalizations was expected to increase due to the outbreak of cases.

"We are concerned about the situation," he said.

Asked to comment on whether patients who are positive for the Omicron mutation are treated at the Reference Hospital, Ms. Hatzigianni stated that there is a patient who came to the hospital not with COVID symptoms, but for another disease.

At the same time, he added that at the moment there is an increased number of cases in the staff of the Hospital, however, "thanks to the over-effort and dedication of the rest of the staff with overtime work, it tries to fill the gap".
