A total of 36 beds, donated by the Association of Insurance Companies of Cyprus (SAEK), were delivered today at Larnaca General Hospital, in the presence of the Mayor of the city, Andreas Vyras. The number of hospital beds is now increasing to 200.

A written announcement of the Association states that "SAEK, an assistant of the Ministry of Health in the effort to fight the SARS-CoV-2 virus, stands by the side of society by donating 36 beds to the Larnaca General Hospital. Responding to the challenges of the time, the insurance companies in Cyprus proceeded with the donation of 100 thousand euros, thus supporting the society in the fight against COVID-19».

It is added that "the beds were transferred to the warehouse of the Larnaca General Hospital where they were assembled. The equipment will be gradually transferred to the new ward of the hospital ".

In his statements during the handover ceremony of the beds, the Mayor of Larnaca Andreas Vyras congratulated SAEK for the donation and thanked on behalf of the city "the Association of Insurance Companies for this great social offer. The equipment of the public Hospitals and especially of the new wing of Larnaca Hospital is very important ".

He also stated that "Larnaca and society have a direct benefit from such moves. We want to say a big 'thank you' to them for the initiative. "

He also noted that "the donation will contribute to the service of patients from COVID-19 but also more generally, at a time when the Famagusta Reference Hospital has closed most of its wards. The beds will be needed even more due to the movement of all the patients of Famagusta to Larnaca ".
