Paralimni High School: In 2023 the expansion will be completed according to the Ministry of Education

From October 14, 2019, the MP of the Movement of Ecologists - Citizens' Cooperation, George Perdikis, submitted a parliamentary question to the Minister of Education, where he told him that while a fund had been approved for the seismic reconstruction of Paralimni High School, the works are delayed. Many of the problems faced by the school (insufficient fencing, unsuitability of sports and outdoor areas, insufficient internet connection in halls and offices) are not solved, as stated in an announcement of the Ecologists' Movement, "On the pretext that they will be resolved in the context of the works for the seismic reconstruction".

The Minister of Education, Mr. Prodromou, in his response stated that the project is expected to be announced in February 2020 while the start of the project is expected in July 2020 and its implementation work will take about three years.

"From a memorandum of the Association of Parents and Guardians of Paralimni High School, I was informed that a fund has been approved for the seismic reconstruction of the school. However, work seems to be delayed.

"I would like to refer to the above question and inform you about the following:

  • The project of seismic upgrade, extensions and conversions of Paralimni High School is expected to be announced in February 2020. The project is expected to start in July 2020 and its implementation will take about three years.
  • The project includes the construction of a new administration building, a library room, classrooms, workshops and an entertainment room, as well as extensions and alterations to existing buildings to improve their functionality. In addition, the project includes energy and electrical upgrades of all buildings as well as work related to student safety such as new fencing, safety glass in all windows, new staircases and external yard improvement work. Finally, the project ensures and improves accessibility for people with disabilities.

Regarding the various other problems that the school is facing in the current phase, the School Ephorate of Paralimni will contribute to their temporary solution until the completion of the project.
