Following once again the tradition of the Flood and the old customs of the area, the feast of the Holy Spirit was celebrated again this year, with due splendor, in Paralimni.
On Monday morning (13/6/2022), the Solemn Divine Liturgy was performed in the homonymous chapel of the Holy Trinity in Paralimni, during which the Most Venerable Metropolitan of Constantia and Famagusta Vassilios officiated. The Mystery of the Divine Eucharist was performed by the first councilor of the Holy Metropolis, Archimandrite Augustinos Kkaras, accompanied by the elders Andreas Papamichael, Nikolaos Papantoniou, Chariton Theodorou and the Deacon Ioannis Papaioanou.
Several believers attended the church, including the mayors of Paralimni, Theodoros Pyrillis, Lefkonikos Zina Lysandros Panagidis and others.
In his sermon, Panierotatos spoke about the importance of the great feast of Pentecost and the Holy Spirit and then focused his speech on the theme of the feast of the "Flood", as it was called in the popular tradition of Cyprus.
Immediately after the end of the Divine Liturgy, the faithful and pious people gathered on the beach, while the Metropolitan of Constantia, the seventh priesthood, the Mayor of Paralimni and other local agents coming "at sea and landing on the ship", as defined by an old local traditional custom area, they sunk the Holy Cross in the clear blue and calm waters of the city of Paralimni.
The protagonists of the day are the young children who dived to retrieve the Holy Cross.
Addressing the audience, Panierotatos wished "the current sanctification of the waters, that our place finds its way to progress and peace and that we get rid of all the sufferings that afflict the world today."
In fact, the Mayor of Paralimni, Theodoros Pyrillis, did not miss the opportunity to observe the custom of the day, including with water the Archimandrite Augustinos Kkara with the second responding with water war.
