Refugees Cape Greco: They paid € 1.000 to reach Cyprus

Seventeen people, who were riding in a small boat, in the sea area of ​​Cape Greco, were rescued yesterday afternoon by the Port & Maritime Police, during a coordinated operation, under the Search and Rescue Coordination Center (KSED).

The small boat, on which the above persons were riding, was located around 1.40pm. yesterday, 40 nautical miles southeast of Cape Greco. Immediately after its location, the national plan "Naukratis" was implemented and the KSED gave an order to the Port and Maritime Police to sail in the area.

At 2 pm, the unruly "Onisilos" of the Port and Maritime Police, sailed from the port of Larnaca. Around 5 p.m. the crew of the akato, located the small boat, 42 nautical miles southeast of Cape Greco. As it turned out, the boat was carrying 17 people.

Due to the turbulence that prevailed in the area, the towing of the boat to the port of Larnaca was impossible. That is why the 17 passengers of the boat boarded the Akato of the Police and were transported safely to the mainland. Eleven men, one woman and five minors aged 3 to 15 were found. Everyone was in good health, but a three-year-old girl was taken to Larnaca General Hospital due to fever symptoms. After receiving first aid he was fired.

According to the police, the passengers of the boat sailed on October 29, from a Lebanese port, after paying € 1,000 each, to an unknown person, who handed them over to the boat. Their destination, as they mentioned, was Cyprus and they expressed their intention to apply for political asylum.

After the end of the examinations, the above persons were transferred to the accommodation of immigrants in Kokkinotrimithia.
