Yesterday, the Police proceeded to arrest four persons, who arrived by sea boats, together with a number of immigrants, in the free area of ​​Famagusta. Three of the suspects were arrested, among other things, for the crime of helping third-country nationals to enter the Republic, while the fourth suspect was arrested for the crimes of leaving a place of accommodation for immigrants and leaving the Republic from an unapproved port.

Specifically, for the purposes of investigating a case of assisting third-country nationals to enter the Republic, in relation to the arrival by sea of ​​16 immigrants, yesterday afternoon, in the area of ​​the free city of Famagusta, members of the Police proceeded to arrest with a warrant, a man aged 37 years old, who according to the data under examination was also the navigator of the sea vessel. As it was established from the tests carried out to verify the suspect's details, in the past he resided in the Republic and had been declared a prohibited immigrant.

Also for the purpose of investigating assistance to third country nationals to enter the Republic, in relation to the arrival by sea vessel, of 58 immigrants, on the evening of last Sunday, July 24, in the area of ​​the free city of Famagusta, members of the Police yesterday proceeded to arrest with court warrants , two men, aged 42 and 20 years.

A fourth person, a 29-year-old man, who had arrived by sea boat, together with eight other immigrants, in the free area of ​​Famagusta, on the morning of April 1 last year, was located and arrested yesterday by members of the Police, with a court warrant, for investigation purposes case of leaving a place of accommodation for immigrants, and departure from the Republic from an unapproved port.

According to the data under consideration, upon his arrival in the Republic last April, the 29-year-old was transferred to a place of accommodation, which he then illegally abandoned. As established by the tests carried out to verify his details, he was in the Republic in 2018 as well, when he was granted a temporary residence permit, however he traveled outside the Republic, illegally from an unapproved port and returned in April, along with the other eight Immigrants.

The four suspects were taken into custody, for the purposes of police examinations.
The three cases are being investigated by the TAE of Famagusta.
