"Tourism and the hotel industry of the Province of Famagusta and the whole of Cyprus are going through difficult times and the year 2020 has been lost for good." This is the universal finding of the members of the Board of Directors of PASYXE Famagusta, which met on Thursday, July 16, in the presence of the President of the Democratic Alarm, Mr. Averof Neophytou.
Mr. Neophytou was informed about the situation of tourism in the Province of Famagusta, which is not at all positive and that the messages coming from our various markets are not at all encouraging. Hoteliers have expressed concern about the reopening of far more hotels than they need, which will create bigger financial problems.
It was stressed, however, that for the hoteliers of the Province of Famagusta, the health of the citizens is paramount and they support the policy pursued, as it would be very dangerous in the current circumstances to accept tourists without the relevant test, regardless of the consequences.
Mr. Averoff was also briefed on the problems faced by hoteliers and hotel employees regarding state subsidies.
The whole situation and the problems that arise from this situation and the adverse effects for both 2020 and 2021 were assessed, which is expected to be another difficult year.
However, the belief was expressed that the Cypriot Tourism will overcome the current difficulties and will survive to become the pillar of the Cypriot economy again.
