The President of PASYXE Famagusta, Doros Takkas, appealed to the authorities to do everything possible in order to save the next tourist year.

In his statements, Mr. Takkas characterized "a very negative development, yesterday's announcement of Britain, that from Sunday, November 1, those traveling from Cyprus to the United Kingdom will be restricted for 14 days. "We consider that this is the gratuitous shot for tourism in Cyprus, which will close the tourist season for 2020," he said.

He added that "unfortunately this year is closing ignominiously and Cyprus has not been able to get what it could as a tourist destination, in comparison with its other competitors. "Greece managed to get about 30-35% of the tourist traffic of 2019 this year, in contrast to Cyprus which did not exceed 10-15%".

Answering a relevant question, Mr. Takkas said that in the province of free Famagusta, about 20 hotels are still open for tourists in November, "however, with the latest decision of Britain, things become much more difficult. It is expected that only 2-3 hotels will remain open during November in the province of Famagusta ".

He also noted that "what needs to be done to save what we can from the tourist season 2020-21, is to move immediately, especially to those markets that we neglected this year, namely the Russian and Ukrainian. We have to assure the specific markets that they will be able to carry out some tourist activity next year ".

According to the President of PASYXE Famagusta, "this is the time of planning, this is the time when the two specific tourist markets must know how to deal with next year. "The Russian and Ukrainian markets are constantly asking hoteliers for information on what will happen in 2021, which unfortunately we do not have yet, to give."

Mr. Takkas addressed "an appeal to the authorities to take all the necessary actions so that we can save what can be saved from the tourist season of 2020-21, which is predicted to be as difficult as this year."
