The Cypriot authorities are on alert for new arrivals of migrants from the territorial waters of Cyprus. The wave of immigrants that "threatens" to invade the Greek border from Evros and the hundreds of thousands of immigrants trying to enter Greece from the Greek islands, will not leave our country unaffected, as according to the information new arrivals are expected immigrants in the coming days.

According to the information of Famagusta.News, the weather conditions in the following days seem to favor the effort of migrants to cross the Cypriot territorial waters through Cape Greco, something that is a common tactic, as happened recently on January 14, 2020 with the first for in 2020 the arrival of a boat with 101 migrants who started from Antalya, Turkey. It is pointed out that hundreds of illegal immigrants - refugees from Syria entered in this way, ie through Cape Greco in the Republic of Cyprus, with their disembarkation taking place at the fishing shelter of Agios Nikolaos in the area of Pernera of Protaras.

According to the information of Famagusta.News, the Cypriot authorities seem to be on alert within the next few days to deal with the possible arrival of migrants, in cooperation with the European Border and Coast Guard Organization (Frontex), while it is pointed out that at 2:30 in the morning On February 29, 2020, 14 migrants from Syria managed to enter the Republic illegally from the occupied territories and were located by the Police in Athienou.

Undoubtedly, this is a humanitarian issue, but with many socio-economic implications, which the Cypriot Government is called upon to address, both in terms of the European Union's contribution and in the reception and hospitality of political asylum seekers who have taken refuge in Syria.
