The Municipality of Sotiras ranks first in the balance of acceptance and rejection in the preferences of the inhabitants of free Famagusta, for the issue of the unification of the Municipalities, in the context of the reform of the Local Self-Government. It is followed by the Municipality of Ayia Napa, while the Municipality of Paralimni has a negative percentage in the relevant poll table conducted in Free Famagusta. The poll was conducted by the company SYMMETRON, on behalf of the Ayia Napa Citizens' Initiative Group, which includes hoteliers, businessmen and residents of Ayia Napa, from September 30 to October 12. The poll with a sample of 754 interviews, covered all the municipalities and villages of Free Famagusta.
When asked about the formation of the acceptance balance with another municipality or community, the acceptance of the Municipality of Paralimni was 13% and the rejection 27%, with the balance being -14%. For the Municipality of Ayia Napa, the acceptance was 25% and the rejection 14%, with the balance being 11%. The Municipality of Sotiras, which as it is known has decided to merge with Ayia Napa and Liopetri, ranks first in the acceptance balance, with the respondents answering at a rate of 30% positively and 6% negatively, forming the balance at 24%. For the Municipality of Deryneia the acceptance rate was 20% and the rejection rate 8%, with the balance being 12%. In the relevant table of acceptance and rejection, Frenaros with 12%, Liopetri with 9% and Avgorou 1% also achieve a positive milestone. On the contrary, Dasaki Achnas records a negative balance with -3% and the settlement Vrysoules - Acheritou -5%.
Based on the poll, it is concluded that one in three residents of Free Famagusta does not reject the union with any municipality and community. The Municipality of Paralimni records the largest share of rejection with 24%, followed by Ayia Napa with 14%. Interestingly, the results of the poll show that 13% of the respondents answered that they prefer the current regime and the autonomy of the municipality or community where they live.
Local trends
According to another table of the poll, the residents of the Municipality of Paralimni choose at a rate of 26% the union of the municipality with the Municipality of Deryneia and only 8% with Ayia Napa, while with Sotira they favor a union of 17%. In Deryneia, 40% of the residents want a union with Paralimni and 15% with Ayia Napa. In Ayia Napa, the percentage of residents who want to join Paralimni is 37%, with Deryneia 15% and with Sotira 13%. In the Municipality of Sotiras 26% are in favor of the merger with Paralimni and 41% with Deryneia. Ayia Napa has a percentage of 59%.
According to the poll, the first three spontaneous options for the residents of the Municipality of Ayia Napa are the unification with the Municipality of Sotira 59% and Liopetri 41%, while autonomy is chosen by 25%. The citizens of Paralimni choose unification with the Municipality of Deryneia 40%, Ayia Napa 37%, while 30% prefer a single, autonomous Municipality. The three most important choices of the citizens of Deryneia are the unification with the Municipality of Sotiras 41%, with Frenaros 34% and Paralimni 26%. About one in two Sotiras residents prefer unification with the Municipality of Ayia Napa, 31% with Liopetri and 17% with Paralimni, while 21% choose to maintain the autonomous Municipality.
Quality of life
Regarding the quality of life in the Municipalities and communities of Free Famagusta, 67% of the respondents answered that it is quite good or very good. According to the municipality, the community is quite good or very good, the citizens or residents find their quality of life, as follows: Paralimni 69%. Deryneia 74%. Ayia Napa 71%. Savior 65%. Liopetri 65%. Brake 55%. Egg 69%. Acheritou 64% and Dasaki Achnas 52%.
Regarding the level of municipal and community services provided, 61% of respondents answered that they are quite good or very good. The answers in this category were as follows: Paralimni 64%. Deryneia 74%. Ayia Napa 76%. Savior 60%. Liopetri 47%. Brake 36%. Avgorou 59%. Acheritou 64% and Dasaki Achnas 48%.
It is noted that according to information from "F", during this period another poll similar to that of the company SYMMETRON is being conducted in the Free Province of Famagusta, the results of which are expected to be announced by the first ten days of December.
