The 7th Traditional Festival of the Municipality of Sotira was completed with great success last Tuesday, a festival that focuses on highlighting the traditional element of our place, our cultural heritage and Cypriot folklore.
The Festival took place in the courtyard of the two churches of the Transfiguration of the Savior and was organized by the Culture Committee of the Municipality of Sotira.
The artistic program was attended by the two great traditional singers from Greece and Cyprus, Areti Ketime and Vasiliki Hatziadamou, while folk poets also participated with erotic couplets and tsiatsimata.
Kiosks with traditional professions as well as kiosks with various Cypriot delicacies from the organized ensembles and cultural ensembles of the province of Famagusta also operated at the event.
Also participating were the dance groups, Sotiras Catholic Traditional Dance Workshop, the Sotiras Municipal Dance Club and the Liopetri Cultural Association "I Paradosi".
The Festival was held under the auspices of the Presidency Commissioner Fotis Fotiou.
As stated in his greeting by the Commissioner of the Presidency, Fotis Fotiou, such events where our tradition, our culture, our customs and traditions are presented, our history is the best for the next generations, while stating that if we have really taken root in this place, it is about these customs, about this history, this culture.
The Mayor of Sotira, George Takkas said during his greeting that the Municipality of Sotira proved to be an example of good administration and tidy governance, with a small and flexible model of municipal authority, which aims to increase its revenues and reduce its reckless waste. In this way, the concern of the Municipality, as he said, from the beginning was the utilization of the natural beauties and the coastal front in order to achieve consolidation in the finances and increase of the incomes for the promotion of new projects.
