SOTIRA: Shops flooded - What the residents say (VIDEO)

The Fire Service in Paralimni, Deryneia and Sotira responded to calls for rainwater pumping from premises on Thursday night.

Intense weather phenomena with torrential rains and hail occurred last night in the free province of Famagusta.

According to the Police, for about an hour from 7.30 until 8.30 last night, several roads in Paralimni, Sotira and Deryneia were turned into torrents, since the wells could not absorb the large amount of rain.

In Paralimni, the biggest problem was observed on 1st of April and Griva Digeni streets, where, due to the heavy rainfall and the strong momentum of the waters, a traffic jam was observed.

Roads were turned into rivers, sidewalks were flooded and several materials were swept away in the middle of the road.
The Fire Service responded with two flood response teams, in five incidents in Deryneia, Paralimni and Sotira for pumping rainwater from the basements of three houses, a catechism and a machine shop which damaged the equipment.

The floods also damaged 4 cars in the machine shop.

There were also calls for flooded roads and the local authorities were informed in order to open the flooded road wells.

The hail caused problems in crops in several areas of the free province of Famagusta.

The announcement of the Fire Service:

"The Fire Department responded from last night until this morning to a total of seventeen incidents, which had to do with heavy rainfall.

In the Province of Famagusta, the Service responded to five incidents in the areas of Deryneia, Paralimni, and Sotira. Specifically, rainwater was pumped from the basements of three houses, a catechism and a machine shop which damaged the equipment. Four vehicles inside were also damaged.
