Rikos Erotokritou and Panagiotis Neokleous were placed in the 4A wing of the Central Prison, where the vulnerable cases are being held, yesterday after the decision of the Criminal Court to sentence them to prison.
The two were taken shortly after noon to Central Prison and, as usual for each detainee, were interviewed in person by specially trained staff.
As the director of the Prison, Anna Aristotelous, stated to "F", the two were given a special questionnaire that they were asked to answer, they were asked questions and after evaluating the two cases, it was decided to send them to the small wing 4A. In this wing with a capacity of 12 people there are ten other detainees at the moment, while next to it is wing 4, which has a capacity of 10 people.
Rikos Erotokritou and Panagiotis Neokleous did not make a request or ask for anything. "It's the first day," said Aristotle, "both of whom will have to adapt to the prison climate."
As "F" is informed, the placement of the two in large wings of more than 100 people was avoided so that there would be no reactions from people who, possibly with decisions of Mr. Erotokritos when he was Assistant Attorney General, ended up in front of Justice and then in the cell.
Such cases are of Venizelos Zannettos, Stathis Kittis for the case of Dromolaxia, Savvas Vergas and Eftychios Malikkidis for the case of SAPA Paphos. Both are expected to be provided with facilities to contact their lawyers to prepare their appeal to the Supreme Court, which will appeal against their conviction and sentence.
AND FROM THE DISCIPLINARY THE THREE LAWYERS
The three lawyers who were convicted yesterday by the Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia in the case of Rikos Erotokritos will also pass through the Disciplinary Council of Lawyers.
The Registry of the Court is expected that in the coming days will send to the Attorney General Costas Clerides yesterday the decision of the Criminal Court with the convictions of Rikos Erotokritos, Panagiotis Neokleous and Andreas Kyprizoglou. However, the composition of the Disciplinary Board of Lawyers seems to indicate a problem with two of its members. The Chairman of the Disciplinary Board is the respective Attorney General.
However, in this case, Costas Clerides was also the person who decided the criminal prosecution of the three lawyers and actively participated in the case until it was presented before the Criminal Court. As reported to "F" by a competent source, it is expected that Mr. Clerides will be excluded from the process and the presidency of the Disciplinary Board will be taken over by the president of the Pancyprian Bar Association, Doros Ioannidis.
However, a second problem seems to arise with the member of the Disciplinary Council, Maria Charalambidou.
Ms. Charalambidou is the sister of MP Irini Charalambidou, who testified as a prosecution witness against the three lawyers. It is unknown whether this relationship will affect future disciplinary proceedings against the three convicts. As stated in "F", this issue will be raised during the examination of the issue, since the decision has not yet been forwarded to the Disciplinary Board.
It is noted that the Disciplinary Board of Lawyers consists of the following: Costas Clerides, Doros Ioannidis, George Engineer, Phoebus Zomeni, Maria Charalambidou and Icarus Typographer.
