Only 26% of Britons believe that it is justified for the sculptures that adorned the Parthenon in antiquity to remain in Britain at this time, according to a poll published on Tuesday that strengthens the position of Athens, which demands their return to Greece . Almost half of the British believe that the Sculptures should be returned to Greece.

Almost 50% of respondents (49%) believe that the sculptures should be returned to Greece.

24% do not express an opinion, according to a poll conducted by YouGov on a sample of 1.589 people between December 7 and 8 on behalf of The Times.

The poll was conducted a few days after the British Museum lent a statue of the Parthenon, the statue of the god Ilissos, to the Hermitage Museum in Russia, a move that angered the Greek government.

In the relevant question asked in the poll, 39% of the respondents expressed the opinion that this action is justified compared to 37% who believe that it is not.

On the other hand, more generally on the issue of lending exhibits on display in British museums to other museums around the world, respondents said they were in favor of 57% versus 25% who argued that the Sculptures could be damaged.
