The electoral ranking of the young: The necessary evil of partisanship

By Chrysostom Luke:

In a short time we will have elections on our long-suffering island. This day will sound like gospel to the ears of the people who are waiting to see light in the tunnel through them. 2008 has nothing to do with 2012. Events have changed drastically. Cyprus, once prosperous, is one step away from disaster.

The rise to power of the Communist Party of Cyprus (AKEL) came as a global surprise when it happened in 2008. It promised a just society, prosperity and a solution to the Cyprus problem. It was a good opportunity to prove that they can offer from leadership positions. They still had an "ally" on their side, the "right" (DISY). Power, power, acceptance and zero opposition. Everything was in favor of the new government.

As their term draws to a close, the situation bears no resemblance to the glorious past. An economically self-sufficient country with rapid growth, a high standard of living and prestige around the world, is crawling in the corridors of the West and the East begging. Our fins smell of ashes from the "fire" they put on the island. Cyprus has fallen into a quagmire, a socio-economic-ideological Middle Ages. Opponents are isolated, limited. The Neroes stand and watch arrogantly. Next to them are the fanatical supporters and the other senators. The last ones I greet are waiting for the end to come to taste after power. In the middle of it all: the voters. Mainly the young people.

Elections are like business. You need to advertise to sell. You need to find smart ways to market the product without being exposed. But because we live in Cyprus where the old "customers" know the products, their attention is focused on the new "customer" who is now ideologically and politically shaped. That is where the role of party spokespersons begins. Structured in the beginning, a new vote = a party vote ("ours"), they are defiled in society to promote. Knowing the ideological status of everyone, they strike at the "weak". The rest know their month.

In the 21st century we live in a new apartheid. Only this time it is ideological. The apostates are devalued, accused, ridiculed. No one should come out of the "corral", a severe punishment awaits him.

On the opposite bank, it is worth watching the progress of the new voter. Debauchery begins in childhood. Pioneers in this are the family and the school. By referring to the first, I mean the deep party hearth that the child sometimes tries to initiate by force (sometimes) into the party "ideals", without giving him stimuli to look for himself. On the other hand we have the school, which as a carrier of spirit and democracy should on the one hand cultivate the child spiritually and on the other hand keep him away from the vultures of the parties (student party organizations). On the contrary, we have seen these "organizations" penetrate more and more into schools, fighting over who will have the exclusivity and sowing dislike, discord and ultimately hatred in the souls of teenagers. Recruitment condemns any attempt by the few teachers, even parents, to cultivate good thinking.

Their purpose is mostly achieved and we have the downside of today: A SOCIETY DIVIDED IN RED, BLUE, GREEN and other colorful. The electoral ranking of the young is a major issue for them IN THESE ELECTIONS AS WELL. The young man plays a central role in the electoral battle. He has to prove that he stays away from the mudslinging and the quarrels of the parties.

The study of the candidates, the hearing of their positions and the nationalism must determine our vote. The young man himself will choose whether he wants to belong to the manipulated or to the spiritually free. This is how it should be treated now. Because it can have rights in this democracy but it also has responsibilities. With his attitude he will choose which category he wants to belong to. FORGOTTEN IS NO LONGER AN EXCUSE!
