An complaint from AKEL MP Giorgos Georgiou was made by the Anorthosis Famagusta union through its official website for its statements that they left Famagusta.

Today, the Environment Committee of the Parliament submitted suggestions to Anorthosis to move the futsal courts that operate in an area of the Municipality of Larnaca, to another area that has been granted by the Government.

In the discussion of the Committee, the AKEL MP, referring to Famagusta, said that they left the city.

The union replied to Mr. Georgiou that "it was not our choice to leave it and we are very sorry that a Greek Cypriot MP says and believes such things".

In the meantime, in today's session, the Committee examined the illegal operation of Anorthosis futsal football fields and the degradation of the quality of the inhabitants of the area, following a relevant proposal by the Member of Parliament of the Movement of Environmentalists, George Perdikis.

In his statements after the end of the session, George Perdikis spoke of provocative behavior on the part of the representative of Anorthosis.

He expressed respect for the historic club of Anorthosis, but said that this does not mean that Anorthosis, because it is a large and historic club, is blatantly illegal at the expense of the quality of life of the residents of the area where the futsal courts are located.

Mr. Perdikis said that all members of the Environment Committee submitted suggestions and proposals for solving the problem and for the Anorthosis football stadiums to operate in another area of Larnaca without causing any inconvenience and without being illegal.

He expressed the hope that this historic and respected association will heed the recommendations of the Commission and that a solution that works for the association and that will not affect the quality of life of the inhabitants of the area will be reached soon.

As Anorthosis explained, it has set up a training center on a Turkish Cypriot piece of land with two large football pitches and two small futsal pitches which were created in 2011.

As Mr. Perdikis said, these two futsal courts operate almost 18 hours a day, with their creation a green zone between the houses and the stadiums was destroyed, they use the floodlights until late at night, which causes light pollution, there is a lot of car traffic until late at night which causes nuisance and noise pollution and they also have a cafeteria which operates illegally.

"All this is illegal, there are also Court rulings on this issue and the union despite the rulings of the Court, despite the rulings of the Ministry of Interior, despite the suggestions of the Municipality of Larnaca insists that it wants to operate in this area while it has another space in Larnaca that has been granted by the Government where he could move his facilities "he added.
