Nigerians were arrested who ransacked the village of Famagusta

Two Nigerian youths, aged 21 and 22, were arrested yesterday in Ayia Napa to facilitate inquiries related to ongoing burglary and theft and illegal possession of property cases.

According to the Police, around 2:30 yesterday morning, a 28-year-old Romanian employee of a hotel in Ayia Napa, returned to the room where he is staying and located an unknown person in it. The 28-year-old, after restricting the unknown, called the Police.

Members of the Ayia Napa Police Station and the Famagusta Police Department went to the scene where they located the two men and an inspection revealed that the unknown man is a 22-year-old man from Nigeria, a resident of Ayia Napa.

He underwent a physical search and in his possession was found property for which he did not give satisfactory explanations. The young man was arrested for the self-inflicted crime of illegal possession of property and was taken into custody.

The police, after his written consent and in his presence, conducted a search in his apartment in Ayia Napa, where a number of jewelry, watches, various perfumes and various electronic devices were found, such as mobile phones, tablets, cameras and computers.

The 22-year-old did not give satisfactory explanations to the Police regarding the origin of the items which were confiscated by the Police as evidence.

Interrogated, the 22-year-old admitted that part of those found was the product of burglaries and thefts, which he committed together with his 21-year-old roommate, also from Nigeria.

The young man made a voluntary statement to the Police and suggested various tourist accommodation in Ayia Napa from where burglaries and thefts took place, from mid-July until recently.

The 21-year-old was found yesterday around six in the morning outside his apartment and during a physical search, a property was found for which he did not give satisfactory explanations for its origin.

The young man was arrested for the self-inflicted crime of illegal possession of property and was taken into custody, to facilitate the investigations.
