The Egyptian Interior Ministry announced today that it has identified 31-year-old Mahmoud Hassan Mubarak Abdullah, a resident of Suez province, as the suicide bomber, the perpetrator of the terrorist attack on the Coptic church in Alexandria (north) on Sunday.

The ministry said in a statement that it was "continuing its efforts" to identify the perpetrator of the second attack of the same day targeting the Coptic church in Tanta, in the southern part of the country.

At least 45 people have been killed in two bombings of two churches in one of the bloodiest days for Egypt's Christian minority in recent history.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks.
