The Council of Ministers decided to reduce the guard of Dimitris Christofias and Marios Karoyan at yesterday's session.

Specifically, Mr. Karoyan, as a former Speaker of Parliament and as President of DIKO, had at his disposal six police officers who were in charge of his security 24 hours a day. The Council of Ministers decided yesterday to reduce the number of Marios Karoyan's police officers to two, whom he will keep as former Speaker of Parliament.

Also, the Council of Ministers decided yesterday to reduce from 1/1/2014 the guard of Mr. Christofias by three police officers, with the prospect of reducing the guard of the former President of the Republic even more.

Today, 15 police officers are in charge of Mr. Christofias' security. With the new year, they will be reduced to 12 and next July, the situation and the dangers of the life of Mr. Christofias and his family will be re-evaluated.

It is worth noting that both the two-storey house in Makedonitissa, where Mr. Christofias's children live, and his holiday home in Kellaki, where he lives, are guarded. With the departure of Mr. Christofias from the presidency of the Republic, it was deemed necessary to grant such a large number of police officers for the well-known reasons that have to do with the financial disaster of the place.

Finally, the Council of Ministers decided to keep the two police officers owned by Mr. Koutsou until the end of 2014.

The new president of DIKO, Nikolas Papadopoulos, is expected to acquire a police guard.
