If we want to finally behave European, we must support recycling, composting and not throwing our waste in the neighborhood. This is stated by the Mayor of Deryneia, Andros Karagiannis, who in a short interview with KYPE refers to the various actions and activities developed by the Municipality.

As he mentioned, the Municipality of Deryneia has been implementing a system of recycling of various materials and composting for years, with the aim of reusing the material for agricultural purposes and stressed the importance that the Municipality gives to the protection of the environment through various parameters, from recycling to cleanliness.

"The Municipality of Deryneia gives special emphasis to the protection of the environment, but also to cleanliness", he told KYPE.

Continuing, Mr. Karagiannis noted that "for years the recycling system has been applied in our Municipality, while the previous Municipal Council proceeded to the application for the recycling of paper and plastic door to door."

He added that "the glass is recycled in the special bell bins, while the prunings are placed by the citizens in a piece indicated by the Municipality next to the municipal warehouse, with a very low charge, depending on their volume".

Asked if there were any problems preventing recycling, the mayor said that "the collection of bulky solid waste, such as furniture, mattresses, plastic chairs, tables and others, remains a big problem".

As part of the efforts to resolve this issue, the Municipality of Deryneia looks forward to the creation of a Green Point. As Mr. Karagiannis said, "we hope that soon we will be approved to operate our own Green Point, because we will not allow some unconscious to take advantage of the dead zone regime, to throw garbage, rubble and bulky materials. their".

Deryneia, he continued, "is nobody's garbage dump. "If we finally want to behave European, we must support recycling, composting and not throw our waste to the neighbor."

After stating that "cleanliness shows our culture" Mr. Karagiannis noted that "as we want to keep our house tidy and clean, so we should treat our fellow human beings."

Answering a question regarding the cultivation of a mentality of reduction, recycling and reuse, he said that "the Municipality of Deryneia in collaboration with Green Dot has organized several educational, informative days on the benefits of recycling, to reduce the volume of waste and the use of plastics. ”.

He also said, "we have trained a group of young volunteers in the Green Team, including the members of the Municipal Council, who have distributed information material and completed questionnaires, to raise public awareness."

On the occasion of this action, Mr. Karagiannis praised the importance of volunteering for the success of this effort. "I must admit," he said, "that the contribution of our volunteers was very important in this initiative as well." At the same time, for its part, the Municipality of Deryneia "donated compost bins to schools and our citizens with the aim of promoting composting and reusing the material for agricultural purposes."

According to the Mayor, "the frequent information of our citizens about the benefits of recycling, composting and reuse of materials, makes them more sensitive and more cooperative. Proper recycling starts from the source and this has become clear to the citizens of Deryneia ".
