The amount of dust in the atmosphere is increased, according to a morning announcement of the Inspection and Labor Department of the Ministry of Labor, Welfare and Social Insurance, with which the public and especially the vulnerable population groups (children, the elderly and the sick) are advised to avoid moving in open spaces until the phenomenon is observed.

According to the announcement, today at 8 am, the average hourly values of inhalable particulate matter with a diameter of less than 10 μm (PM10) in the atmosphere, were increased and ranged between 51 μg / m3 and 121 μg / m3 (micrograms per cubic meter) and, therefore, it is expected that the average 24-hour value will exceed the corresponding limit value of 50 μg / m3 set in the relevant legislation. The last 24-hour average for Wednesday, February 8, 2017, ranged between 43 and 69 μg / m3 depending on the region.

Due to the small size of the inhalable particulate matter and their potential adverse effects on human health, the public and especially vulnerable populations (children, the elderly and the sick) are advised to avoid traveling outdoors until the phenomenon has elapsed. in the announcement.

It is also added, it is required that the employers take the appropriate measures (organizational or technical), after assessing the risks for the employees that are in open spaces. In addition, it is recommended that outdoor workers use appropriate personal protective equipment.

More information and online information on the results of the measurements can be found on the specialized website www.airquality.gov.cy and in the application "Air Quality Cyprus", which you can install for free on your mobile phone from Google Play. At this stage this application is only compatible for mobile phones with Android software.
