Troops of a special unit of the Spanish army (of Logistic Support Group 41) based in Aragon have received orders according to which they move to Catalonia!

The exact number of soldiers is not known but, according to the newspaper El Confidencial, two military units are sent in a total of 20 trucks! Their mandate is to provide logistical support to the police and national security forces in the area, however, this is a move that pushes the situation to the extreme as the appearance of troops in Catalonia can be considered a particularly provocative move, as its president The Catalan government, Carles Puigdemon, has recently referred to the Spanish forces as "occupying forces", stressing that they must immediately leave all four provinces of Catalonia.

The former president and leader of the socialist party PSOE Alfonso Guerra defended the decision to send an army to Catalonia in case the police could not control the situation created by a "pro-fascist" independence movement attempting a "coup"!

In an interview with the radio station "Onda Cero", he reminded that in Paris the army was on the streets for a year because of the terrorist threat and that this "does not make France a less democratic country."

According to an express.co.uk report, the troops are believed to have been stationed at the Santa Eulalia de Sant Boi de Llobregat camp, a few miles outside Barcelona. Group 41 provides support and maintenance services, as well as laboratory units and has previously been deployed in Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, Lebanon and Afghanistan.
