The Famagusta District Court in Paralimni today imposed a 10-month prison sentence with a three-year suspension on three people who were found guilty on charges of conspiracy to commit fraud and theft of a sum of 697 thousand euros.

The accused are Polyvios Nikolaou 64 years old and his sons Konstantinos Nikolaou 36 years old and Fanos Nikolaou 33 years old from Avgorou.

According to the representative of the Prosecution Authority, Popi Pitsillou, who handled the case, the complainant is 60-year-old Charalambos Nikolaou, brother of Polyvios Nikolaos.

According to the facts of the case, Charalambos Nikolaou proceeded in 2001 to conclude a loan for the amount of 697 thousand euros, which he deposited in the potato trading company he owns with his brother Polyvios Nikolaou in Avgorou.

However, in 2010 Polyvios Nikolaou and his sons took the amount of 697 thousand euros from the company and appropriated it by depositing it in their own accounts.

In its decision, the Court referred to the reasons that contributed to the suspension of imprisonment, which is the fact that the accused and the complainant are brothers, that it is a family affair and the fact that the accused finally compensated the complainant.

The court sentenced the father and two sons to 10 months in prison on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and 8 months in prison on charges of theft.

Both sentences are combined and have a three-year suspension.
