A meeting will be held tomorrow at the Municipal Palace of Sotiras with the aim of establishing the Municipal Youth Council of our Municipality. The meeting will start at 8 pm.
What are Municipal Youth Councils:
The Municipal Youth Councils is a participatory institution that started its operation in Cyprus in recent years with the support of the Local Government and the Cyprus Youth Organization.
Its purposes are:
- To operate as a participatory institution within the Local Government.
- To be a step of expression for the youth of Sotira and to help in the activation of the organized youth groups at local level.
- To encourage the participation of young people in the "commons".
- To discuss and suggest to the Municipality of Sotira the adoption of a policy on issues related to youth at the local level.
- To implement programs, actions and infrastructure projects and to support all organized youth groups active in Sotira.
- To be an institutional form of continuous and substantial connection of the youth with the Municipal Authorities.
- To facilitate the Municipality of Sotiras in identifying the interests and problems of young people.
- To assist the Local Authorities in activating the youth.
- To work for the progress and prosperity of all the young people of the Municipality of Sotira, regardless of race, color, religion or national origin.
- To operate with democratic procedures and with respect for the principles and ideals of democratic life.
- To provide opportunities for young people to participate and take responsibility in the cultural and social development and progress of the Municipality of Sotira and the place in general.
- To provide opportunities to the young people of Sotira for creative employment and healthy entertainment in their free time by promoting, developing and cultivating sports, culture, environmental awareness and volunteering through the design and creation of corresponding fields of action.
- To act for the establishment and support of the autonomy of the youth bodies / organizations that participate in it.
The Municipal Youth Council of the Municipality of Sotira will have to play an advisory role to the Municipal Authorities and a supporting role to the organized youth groups of Sotira. This aims at the multifaceted support of youth organizations in their efforts to develop local activity. This support can be of a technical, or more simply informative nature, for programs and actions of the Cyprus Youth Organization, the Local Government or other bodies, which can be utilized by the youth organizations.
The Municipal Youth Council of the Municipality of Sotira, in no case, will try to replace the organized youth groups and to operate in competition with them but develops activities where the organized youth groups are unable to do so.
Who can be members:
Members of the Municipal Youth Council of the Municipality of Sotira can be all organized youth groups but also all young people who are active within the Municipal Boundaries of Sotira.
Through the Municipal Youth Council, the young people of Sotira will have the opportunity to discuss and suggest the adoption of a policy for everything that concerns them at the local level. Consequently, they benefit from the implementation of programs, actions and infrastructure projects.
The Municipal Youth Council of the Municipality of Sotira will be a form of continuous and substantial connection of the youth with the Municipal Authorities. This will facilitate the Municipality in identifying the interests and problems of young people and in the corresponding activation.
