In a written statement, Mr. Papadopoulos notes that President Nikos Anastasiadis and the government condemn the continued occupation of much of Cyprus by Turkey and call on it to withdraw its troops.
"Today, dark memories are awakened, as 39 years ago Turkey was entering the second phase of the barbaric military invasion of Cyprus, in violation of all the rules of international law and the Charter of the United Nations for the agreed truce, "most of Mesaoria, Famagusta, Karpasia and a large part of the area of Morfos", he states.
The President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis and the government, notes, "condemn the continued occupation of much of the territory of the Republic of Cyprus and call on Turkey to immediately end the consequences of the invasion and withdraw its troops from Cyprus, so as to open the way to find a fair, functional and sustainable solution to the Cyprus problem ".
