GREECE: Tsipras decided early elections

Tsipras EARLY ELECTIONS

Last night was extremely difficult for SYRIZA, which presented a very different picture from the ones we were used to since 2012 at the party, when every election night had a different development. As soon as Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras arrived in Koumoundourou for the second time, together with his wife Betty Baziana, he had essentially decided that the country should be led to elections.

According to information, what Alexis Tsipras allegedly confessed to his associates is that, if the result has the character of cosmogonic changes, then in no case could the government stand.

However, there were different suggestions within the meeting. According to information, a small majority of SYRIZA executives, including Euclid Tsakalotos and Alekos Flampouraris, said that October was near and the government could get there. The majority, however, led by the prime minister, had decided that the data and the pressure it will receive from the ND from now on cannot keep the government in power for another 3 months.

The result seems to have surprised SYRIZA, as it was clear that its executives were convinced that the difference with ND would be small and they certainly did not expect 9,5 points. It was clear that this image did not exist in SYRIZA. After the first exit polls, there was a "leak" from SYRIZA sources who stated that there would be no political developments. The SYRIZA executives expected this range of the difference given by the exit polls between ND and SYRIZA to decrease.

What is SYRIZA examining?

During yesterday's meeting, which was essentially a mini-ministerial, from the ballot box data examined is the very large abstention and the relatively small gathering of SYRIZA that just exceeded 60%. In Koumoundourou, they hope that in the next election battle, this SYRIZA public that supported the party in 2015 will go to the polls.

A wide-ranging meeting of the Central Committee of SYRIZA and the Progressive Alliance is expected today at 19:00 in the afternoon at a central hotel in Athens, where Alexis Tsipras will speak.
