Government Examinations, Ministry of Education

Held on 28 September 2024 (for positions whose initial scale does not exceed A7 scale) and on 2 November 2024 (for positions whose initial scale does not exceed A8 scale – degree or equivalent qualification), the annual written examinations for filling of civil service admission positions, which may be published in the year 2025.

The Examinations Service of the Directorate of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, in its announcement, states that it has been assigned by the competent Special Committee provided for by the Laws on the Evaluation of Candidates for Appointment to the Public Service of 1998 to 2021, the organization and the conduct of the examinations.

In addition, according to the announcement of the Special Committee, the conduct of the written examinations for the filling of admission positions in the public service, which may be published in the year 2025, and which has been assigned to the Examinations Service of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, will take place as follows:

On Saturday 28.09.2024, for positions whose initial scale does not exceed Scale A7 of the government payroll, for which a high school diploma or a three-year post-secondary degree is required as a basic qualification, and on Saturday 02.11.2024, regarding the positions whose initial scale does not exceed Scale A8 of the government payroll, for which a university degree or equivalent qualification is required as a basic qualification.

The written examination, in both cases, will be an aptitude/skills test, consisting of the following three subjects: arithmetical ability, subtractive ability, and verbal ability.

Whoever obtains a total score of at least 50% on average and in each of the subjects at least 40% will be considered successful. The scores of the successful candidates will be subject to further statistical processing and the final score given by the Examinations Service will be to three decimal places.

It is noted that success in the above written examination is a necessary condition for submitting to the Public Service Commission an application for appointment to any of the positions included in the Public Service Admission Position Lists and falling under Appendix Ia (for public service admission positions whose the initial scale does not exceed Cl. A7 of the Government salary scale, for which a high school diploma or a diploma of a three-year post-secondary course is required as a basic qualification, and in Appendix Ib (for entry positions in the public service whose initial scale does not exceed the Cl. A8 of the Government payroll, for which a university degree or an equivalent qualification is required as a basic qualification).

It is noted that the relevant lists of positions are expected to be approved by the House of Representatives and published in the Official Gazette of the Republic.

Relevant information and posting of the lists will follow both on the website of the Commission and on the websites of the Examinations Service and the Department of Public Administration and Personnel.

Those interested will be able to submit an application to participate in the exams, through the website of the Examination Service http://epd.moec.gov.cy, from 14.05.2024 until 31.05.2024. The participation fee was set at €50 for each exam.

It is clarified that candidates who will complete their studies (high school diploma or diploma of a three-year post-high school course, for Appendix Ia, and university diploma or equivalent qualification, for Appendix Ib) can also submit an application for participation in the exams, after the submission date of their application for participation in said examinations.

Please note that candidates must have completed the above studies as well as all other requirements of the position they are interested in, when it is published within 2025 and by the deadline for submitting applications.
