Joe Biden is taking office as the 46th President of the United States today, on a historic - but unusual - day, due to very strict security protocols, which will culminate with his swearing in in Washington.
The motorcade of the elected president will then head to the Capitol, where at 11:00 local time (18:00 Cyprus time) the swearing-in ceremony will begin, on the huge platform set up opposite the National Mall. Pop star Lady Gaga will sing the national anthem and Jennifer Lopez will sing in honor of the new president.
Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be sworn in by the head of the Supreme Court an hour later, at 12:00 (19:00 Greek time) and then the new president will deliver his first speech in which he is expected to present the vision of "to deal with the pandemic, rebuild, unite and heal the nation."
